HEMP Resistant Electrical Generators / Hardened Structures HEMP/GMD Shielded Generators
It is anticipated that in a Black Sky event caused by High-Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP) or Geo-magnetic Disturbance (GMD), the electrical power grids will be rendered inoperable for extended periods. Secondary power sources, including generators, solar and wind, rely on electronics that also will be destroyed during such an event. Thus, while communications and monitoring gear might be protected, they too will be short lived after batteries are exhausted.
It is readily apparent that the most critical resource is hardened electrical power, for without it nothing else will work. The solution is to protect generators by enclosing them in high performance shielded enclosures designed to withstand HEMP and GMD events.
Hardened Structures offers HEMP and GMD hardened generators shielded to U.S. DoD military specification MIL-STD-188-125 ““High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP) Protection for Ground-Based C4I Facilities Performing Critical, Time Urgent Missions”. These packages are turn-key, roll-off and include the enclosure, generator, day tank, automatic transfer switch, and HEMP/GMD RF power filters and waveguides.
The HS series of hardened generators employ full-size HEMP shielded enclosures with walk-around access for easy generator maintenance. A man-size HEMP-rated door and HEMP-rated side maintenance panel provide convenient access. Shielded generator enclosures are available for commercial standby generators, and also in ISO container dimensions for transportability and discreet installations. Prefabricated modular enclosures are available for user-installation of existing generators.
